4 Steps to Rocking a Winter Wyoming Photoshoot

Wyoming’s winter wonderland is one of the most sought after backdrops for family photoshoots! Gorgeous snowy trees and the big open sky, what could be better? With that in mind, here are 4 easy steps to help you rock your WINTER PHOTOSHOOT during those cold winter months in Wyoming!

Step 1: Mentally prepare! I can’t stress this enough, it’s essential to mentally prepare for your winter photoshoot in order to be successful. You know you’re going to be cold so let the people in your photography session know upfront that it’s going to be a bit uncomfortable. If they know this in advance, it helps them prepare to push through the first shots! I can’t even begin to tell you how this step has set my winter photoshoots up for success in the past! If both you and your photographer are prepared, you should be able to get a large variety of shots in the first 10-15 minutes!

Step 2: Get toasty when you can! Shove hand warmers in your pockets and when your photographer has you put your hands in your pockets (and they will), you’ll have a chance to warm up! Also, schedule in time to take a 10 minute break if needed and head to the cars to thaw out for round two. Don’t forget the pep talk while you’re there so you can come back and finish strong!

Step 3: Use the tried & true reward system! Go ahead and promise your family a full day of fun. Plan for some family time after the photoshoot, go out for hot cocoa somewhere new or warm up at the movies with popcorn! One thing I know for sure is that you’ll have those youngsters cooperating for you right off the bat if they know they have control of how fast it goes!

Step 4: Have fun at your photoshoot! Try to keep up the lightheartedness of the day and have fun! Trust me, this is probably the most important step of the whole day. If you are having fun, your images will turn out! Winter photoshoots are BEAUTIFUL in Wyoming, but your family’s relationship is even more beautiful so don’t be afraid to showcase it! What are you waiting for? Get out there & take advantage of the gorgeous Wyoming winter landscape for your next family photoshoot! I’m totally rooting for you.
